Selznick, B.  (2011).  Wonderstruck.  New York, NY:  Scholastic Press.

Response:  The illustrations by Brian Selznick are powerful and intriguing.  The small details and the close ups bring the reader in quickly and forcefully at times, but keeps the reader entertrained and engaged in the book throughout from page to page.

Singer, M.  (2010).  Mirror Mirror:  A Book of Reverso Poems.  New York, NY:  Dutton Children's Books.

Summary:  Several classic tales were cleverly orchestrated in reverse.  Each fairy tale had such contrasting use of verse that you will want to re read the book again just to check to see if you caught something tangled in the words.  The illustrations by Josee Masse was a nice compliment to the book.

Response:  I enjoyed reading the children's book and reading it just to make sure I didn't miss anything forwards or backwards. The book is a great introductions to challenging students to a new way of writing poems.
