Wiesner, D.  (2001).  The Three Pigs.  New York, NY:  Clarion Books.

Summary:  You take an adventurous tour of the classic story of the three little pigs by David Weisner.  In, around, top, bottom, and through the pages, the book successfully leads the readers on a wild ride where the pigs get to see another day.

Response:  The illustrations are superb every time I look through the pages, I find something new in the details and backgrounds.  I truly understand why Weisner has won so many awards!

Howard County Public School System interviewed Wiesner and allowed him to describe many books and the background knowledge in his books.

Woodson, J.  (2014).  Brown Girl Dreaming.  New York, NY:  Penguin Group.

Summary:  Biography of poems describing birth, youth, childhood events in free verse.  Although the setting is in the 60's and 70's, daily interactions with others is sometimes difficult to achieve.  Each poem tells of a moment in time in the young girl's life.  Through thick and thin, Jacqueline's dream comes true.

Response:  I enjoyed reading Woodson's account of her childhood and memorable moments in her life.  I can't imagine what struggles her family endured.  I appreciate her gentle poems and enjoyed the style in which they were written.
